Come August and the Academic Scene Begins to Heat up!

Almost half the academic year in India is over and most students in India will be attempting their half-yearly or the first-term examinations later this month or in early September. They are going to feel the heat and pressure from the atmosphere around them. Even their teachers will be somewhat worried and in some cases, even more worried, than the students as things are not in their hands. I have no idea at this time for teachers but I can give some useful tips to students to face this mid-yearly hiccup.
First things first, students should altogether stop cramming up the content. They should focus on understanding and making the connections between the topics, wherever possible. For example, I was working with a grade 9 student who was clue less about respiration. I made her a chart that connected breathing, cellular-respiration, digestion, and blood-circulation.
I told her to now read the chapter and see for herself whether it makes sense. It seemed that it did make sense to her as she was able to grasp the gist of the chapter.
I believe that such concept-based approach will prove useful to the students in the long-run. Admitted that the strugglers among them may not be able to complete the whole syllabus but this approach will prepare them for life
So, my advise to students will be not to despair, in fact remain upbeat about their chances, and develop a belief that their competition is with their own best-self and not their peers. They do not have to show their performance to anyone but themself and ultimately prepare for the final battle in February or March.
Remember
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."
– Robert Collier
And if you are facing DIFFICULTIES, read the following inspiring couplets by Mirza Ghalib:
रंज से खुगोर हुआ इंसान तो मिट जाता है रंज,
मुश्किलें मुझ पर पड़ी इतनी की आसान हो गयीं।
The rough translation of the above couplet goes like this:
When sorrow becomes so much that you become accustomed to it, then it disappears. I this context, sorrow can mean exams and getting accustomed to it can be taken as fearless, honest preparation without any worry about results.
